M1 closed in Leicestershire after ‘serious’ collision

The M1 in Leicestershire was closed northbound overnight between J23 and J23A due to a “serious” collision involving a car and an HGV. All emergency services are on scene, says Highways England, and the road should be open for rush hour this morning.

In the meantime, traffic has been diverted via the solid diamond diversion symbol. Exit the M1 at J23 and continue onto the A512 westbound. Continue on this road until the A42 junction at Ashby-de-la-Zouch. At J13 of the A42, take the 5th exit onto the A42 northbound. Continue on this road and then take the free flow lane back onto the M1 northbound.

Highways England is asking motorists to allow extra time for their journeys, and to drive to the conditions.
