Timms staff see red

Female members of staff at Timms Solicitors in Queen Street, Derby, will be joining thousands of women across the globe in sporting a special lipstick to mark International Women’s Day today (Thursday March 8).

They have all bought the limited-edition Elizabeth Arden red lipstick with proceeds from sales (£22) going to UN Women to support the ‘March On’ campaign to help women in need around the world unite and reach their potential.

The ‘March On’ campaign aligns with the 100th anniversary of the women’s right to vote in the UK and International Women’s Day.

Elizabeth Arden’s bright red lipstick was a symbol of liberty during the suffragettes’ march on Fifth Avenue, NYC, in 1912, when it was given out to women who were taking part. Red lipstick has been used as a symbol of women’s unification, strength, and defiance ever since.

Timms Solicitors senior partner Fiona Moffat said: “Although I would not usually wear red lipstick to work, I think this is a very visual and unifying way for us to show our support for the work that is being done around the world to empower women and girls and the struggles of past generations in securing the vote for women.

“All proceeds are going to UN Women and we will be wearing this classic Red Door Red shade with pride on Thursday.”
