Derby law firm enters liquidation

Derby law firm, Bemrose Legal, has entered Liquidation, after over 80 years of trading.

The business was established in 1936. From 1936 until 2013, the business traded as a traditional partnership under the name of Bemrose & Ling Solicitors. In November 2013, the business was re-branded and became a Limited Liability Partnership, trading as Bemrose Legal LLP.

According to liquidators from Smith Cooper, a number of issues, including the increasing costs of business and changes in the legal services sector, which opened up the market for the provision of legal services by other service providers, has affected the business’ ability to offer legal services at price-competitive rates, and which in turn has adversely impacted on the level of new business, resulting in the firm’s downturn.

Dean Nelson, head of business recovery and insolvency at Smith Cooper, said: “This is undoubtedly a difficult period for all involved with the firm, however we are now in the process of dealing with the LLP’s assets and will strive to achieve the maximum outcome for its creditors.”
