Contractor G F Tomlinson has started work on a £6m development to revive a disused site on Goldsmith Street on behalf of Nottingham Trent University.

The works include the development of a new-build property on the fire-damaged site that will provide offices for 200 staff, exhibition space and meeting rooms.

The four-storey building was designed by Nottingham-based architects, CPMG and is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.

Andy Sewards, managing director for G F Tomlinson said: “We’re proud to be working with Nottingham Trent University again to help expand its property portfolio in the centre of Nottingham and transform a site which was badly affected by a fire and left derelict for many years.

“At the centre of the site regeneration is a unique four-storey building that will offer state-of-the-art facilities for staff as the university continues to grow.

“As well as featuring bespoke offices and meeting rooms, the large foyer area and exhibition space will provide ample space for student-related activities in the heart of the city.”

Ged O’Donoghue, director of estates at Nottingham Trent University said: “Having worked with G F Tomlinson previously to deliver our ‘Heart of the Campus’ development at Clifton Campus, I’m really pleased to have the team on board to complete this new office accommodation.

“Our university is growing rapidly so it is great that we have extra space to continue offering the best possible service to students. The designs have been mindful of the street scene and we’re confident the new building will complement the area, as well as being a vital addition to our university.”

Nick Gregory, director at CPMG Architects, said: “The new office designs will bring a new four-storey office building to the city of Nottingham which will transform this derelict brownfield site into a distinctive and attractive addition to the skyline. We’re excited to be helping Nottingham Trent University grow its property portfolio with a building that will include offices for staff and exhibition space for on the ground floor.”
