Plans for city centre car and van rental depot thrown out by Council

Plans to develop a vacant site in Nottingham city centre into car and van rental depot have been thrown out by Council planners.

The Scot Group, which owns the UK franchise for Thrifty Car and Van Rental, wanted to transform the former Sunwin car dealership site on Incinerator Road into a new branch, creating 15 jobs.

The company operates a fleet of 17,000 vehicles from approximately 100 branches throughout the UK.

The plans included the construction of a 1,905 sq ft office and parking space for 220 vehicles. There would also be a wash bay for cars.

However, Nottingham City Council has dismissed the application, saying: “The use of the site for vehicle rental would fail to make a positive contribution to the public realm and sense of place, would not be attractive and would be completely dominated by motor vehicles.”
