Announcement brings 17,000 East Midlands homes a step closer

Plans to unlock land for 17,000 homes in Derby, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, and Derbyshire have moved a step closer.

Housing Secretary Sajid Javid has announced that 44 new areas across England have been shortlisted for a slice of £4.1bn in Housing Infrastructure funding to provide infrastructure like roads, bridges and new schools needed by new communities, linked to new HS2 growth zones.

For the cities and counties involved, that could mean s, centered around the HS2 Hub in Toton.

Areas of development include Infinity Garden Village, Celanese Urban Village, Toton Innovation Campus, the former Stanton Ironworks, Chetwynd Barracks, Chesterfield and Staveley Corridor.

Peter Gadsby of Ark Capital said: “This is a testament to the collaboration and hard work between Derby City Council, South Derbyshire District Council and Derbyshire County Council together with the developers of Infinity Park and the landowners including Harpur Crewe Estate and Rolls Royce. This has been recognised by Homes England in awarding this first stage of housing infrastructure funding.

“There is no doubt that the Garden Village will deliver vital new homes and a game changing development stimulating the local economy and together with the proposed extension to Infinity Park will deliver several thousand new jobs.”

According to the East Midlands HS2 Growth Strategy, by targeting key sectors that can benefit from HS2 connectivity –  in particular manufacturing, technology and high value services –  HS2 can help deliver an additional 74,000 jobs and almost £4bn of GVA by 2043 in the region, as well as the 17,000 houses that this funding can deliver.
