Weekender: Logged off: Ross Whiting, Innes England
Ross Whiting, graduate surveyor at commercial property agents Innes England, on how he winds down at the weekend.
How do you relax at the weekend?
I spend the majority of my weekends playing for Beeston hockey club which competes to a high standard on both a national and European stage. Many of the first team players are internationals. If I’m not there, I’m down at the City Ground watching the one and only NFFC!
I always find time for friends and family on a Saturday night whether it be a nice meal or a drink. Nottingham has such a variety of restaurants and bars nowadays and I’m a real fan of Nottingham’s food and drinks scene.
How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
In general, I try to keep my weekends work-free as I think it’s important to have downtime. Occasionally, I do have to work on weekends but I try to be as efficient as possible in the week to prevent that from happening.
What is your favourite…
Holiday? It would have to be Mauritius. I went when I was about 12 and thought it was unbelievable. I would really like to visit again in the future.
One of my goals is to travel the world; I think there are so many fascinating things to see and experience that it would be a shame not to visit all of these places.
Book? The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. I really love the mystery of the book.
Album? It would have to be Drake’s Take Care. It’s an album that I grew up with in my teenage years and still resonates with me now. In my eyes it’s a classic!
TV programme? Currently it’s Black Mirror. The way in which it captures the social issues apparent in today’s younger generation is really powerful and has a deep underlying message. Although I am guilty for it at times, I find many of my age group spend too much time on their phones.
Food? My favourite cuisine would most definitely have to be Chinese, specifically dim sum which is a style of Chinese cuisine. I would recommend everyone to visit Mr Man’s Restaurant in the city centre and Wollaton and try it.
Website or app? Definitely an app, just purely for the accessibility. I currently use Pinterest quite a lot – it’s good for ideas, especially relating to house design.
How do usually spend your Sunday evenings?
With my feet on the sofa watching the football with my friends. I am a Nottingham Forest fan at heart but love to watch the big Premier League games.
