New café for former Larder pastry chef

Emma Hall

A new cafe is set to launch in the Nottingham suburb of Sherwood.

Koselig Cafe officially opens to the public on Tuesday 15th May with a menu from its award-winning founder Emma Hall – including breakfasts, handmade lunches and a selection of home-cakes and treats

The cafe is situated inside A Room Full of Butterflies on Mansfield Road, Sherwood, and has been described by its owner as “a labour of love” for its creator, Emma.

After studying fine art at Nottingham Trent University, she retrained as a pastry chef and worked in Spain for a short time in a number of bakeries. She returned to the UK with a drive to continue in the food industry – taking on the role of head pastry chef for The Larder on Goosegate before working at the highly-regarded Welbeck Bakehouse in north Nottinghamshire – where she set up the company’s sweet line.

It was always Emma’s intention to set up on her own one day and in early 2018, she decided to take the leap and launch her own independent cafe.

“Cooking is soulful and provides me with the chance to put my heart into something so essential to people’s everyday lives,” said Hall.

The name Koselig (pronounced Koosh-lee) derives from a Norwegian word which despite not having a direct translation roughly means ‘cosy’.

Hall added: “We have plans for board game nights, crafternoon teas and much more in the future. I want people to come here and socialise, make new friends, relax, spend time appreciating the experience and feel like they are eating at a friend’s house.”

Hall says she will also be offering a made-to-order cake-baking service for birthdays, weddings and other special occasions.
