Weekender: Notts County Show – everything from local bands to working ferrets

Nothing says springtime like a family county show. Now is its 135th year, the Nottingham County Show is an all-weather event for all ages. But what are the details?

When is the Nottinghamshire County Show?

This weekend: Saturday 12 May and Sunday 13 May. Doors open from 8am until 6pm, both days.

What is it?

The Nottinghamshire County Show is an action-packed family friendly county show. You can expect to see exciting animal displays including show jumping, heavy horses, sheep show, dog and duck show, a working ferret display and birds of prey.

Cooking displays from local producers as well as lots of food and drink stalls and even a giant man made from fruit and vegetables!

And for those who enjoy live bands and singing, the music marquee offers an eclectic mix from local bands including the Palace Singers and Blidworth Welfare Brass Band. Lincs FM will be hosting their very own ‘music festival’ from 11.00 to 2.00pm on both days with live music from local musicians.

Where is it held?

Newark Showground, in Lincoln Road, NG24 2NY.

How much are tickets and parking?

Advance tickets have now sold out, but you can purchase adult tickets on the gate for £15, members of the Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society and under 17s go free.

Parking is also free.

What’s good for kids to do?

As well as watching all of the exciting shows, children will be able to meet much loved farm animals at a number of venues across the Showground as well as giant tortoises and other fascinating species.

Children will also have the opportunity to have a go at cooking and learn about food, including burger making with local butcher Johnny Pusztai, and growing your own vegetables with John Stirland.

Can I take my dog?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the Show but must be kept on a lead at all times. Dogs are not allowed in the livestock area or food experience area.
