Gym plans revealed for former Tales of Robin Hood building

Plans have been submitted to Nottingham City Council to turn the former Tales of Robin Hood premises into a gym.

Tales of Robin Hood closed in 2009, and now Tesco, which owns the builing and runs an adjacent supermarket, wants to turn the premises into a 16,780 sq ft gym, spread over the ground and first floors.

Tesco says the gym will create 15 jobs and will be operated by Sweat! Gyms, which has an emphasis on appealing to female members. The firm currently operats five gyms in the UK and is planning to open five more this year.

A planning statement says: “Sweat Gym’s objective for the application site is to create a well-designed, bright and airy space delivering a vibrant, colourful and edgy brand which is particularly attractive to women, students and new gym users. The gym would be operated to hotel quality brand standards with clean, quality locker rooms and showers.”

The gym would be open seven days a week.

Sweat! Gyms currently runs venues in Walsall, Sheffield, Glasgow, Denton (Manchester) and Chelmsford.
