Make-up artist opens Nottingham interior design shop

Clare Newman in her new shop

Local make-up artist, Clare Newman, has opened a new interiors shop 2 Magpies Design at intu Broadmarsh.

The new store sells luxury upcycled furniture and unique interior accessories, as well as offering an interior design consultancy service. Nottingham-born Newman – who has an art and design background – upcycles the second-hand furniture herself and sources it from auctions and charity shops.

She said: “I want to encourage homeowners to push the boundaries with their houses and be brave with their interiors choices. 2 Magpies Design is about adding splashes of colour in a tasteful way, moving homes away from being beige and boring. Fashion has a lot of diversity and innovation and it’s time for the interiors industry to do the same.”

The shop offers a bespoke sourcing service and can offer tailored advice for those considering making a bolder, more colourful choice.

She added: “We have received such fantastic support from every single member of staff at intu Broadmarsh. The team never hesitate whenever I need help with something, which is priceless for a small independent company. We have had such a positive response already. All of the customers seem really pleased to have a new interiors destination in the city centre, which is really encouraging.”

Nigel Wheatley, general manager of intu Broadmarsh said: “We’re so pleased that Clare has chosen intu Broadmarsh as the location for her first retail venture – 2 Magpies Design is another great addition to the existing independent retailers we have in the centre.

“The individual and tailored pieces you can find in 2 Magpies Design have been really well received by our customers who can’t wait to check out what’s appearing in their window next. We’re proud to welcome a new store that upcycles unwanted items to make a difference to the communities in which we all work and live.”
