Leicester IP management firm launches African business

Dr Derek Palmer

A Leicester-based IP management firm has launched a sister company in Africa.

ProspectIP, which has its headquarters in the Innovation Centre in Oxford Street, was set up by Dr Derek Palmer in 2011.

The company offers a range of services to help clients benefit from their innovations and intellectual assets.

Clients include universities and research establishments, businesses, public sector organsiations and the investment community.

The firm’s new venture, ProspectIP Africa, became one of just a few specialist IP management firms in East Africa when it launched in Nairobi, Kenya, on World Intellectual Property Day (26 April 2018).

ProspectIP Africa covers all forms of IP and offers a range of services including IP audits and evaluation, IP protection, IP risk management, general IP strategy and, most importantly, IP valuation.

These services will help universities, businesses, entrepreneurs, the financial sector and public-sector organisations in East Africa to benefit from their innovations and intellectual assets.

The company has been created to meet a growing demand for specialist intellectual property management services in the region.

Dr Palmer said: “ProspectIP Africa has been formed to provide IP management services specifically tailored to meet the needs and requirements of the exciting businesses, innovators and research establishments in the East African region.

“However, Leicester remains the ideal base for our headquarters because of its central location and excellent transport links. The city has a remarkably supportive business community and we remain fully committed to our base in the Innovation Centre.”

To support its launch in Nairobi, ProspectIP Africa has teamed up with Inngot, thought leaders in IP finance, and providers of global online tools to help companies and individuals value their intellectual property assets.
