Plans revealed for 172,000 sq ft Nottingham student scheme

The scheme would include break-out areas and bars

More student accommodation could be coming to Nottingham – this time on the site of a plumbing merchants near the city’s railway station, TheBusinessDesk.com understands.

A planning application has been submitted to Nottingham City Council by Southern Grove Traffi Street for The Vantage, which could be built on land currently hosting a Plumb Centre on Traffic Street and Waterway Street.

Under the plans, the current Plumb Centre would be demolised and replaced with a 172,000 sq ft building that, at its tallest, would be be 12 storeys high and include 124 student apartments.

The scheme will be developed and operated by Future Generation.

A planning statement accompanying the application reads: “Future Generation offer a unique precedent in the student market. They ensure that there is a high level of communal and networking hub floor space within their developments.

“There will be a number of games and leisure facilities located at lower ground floor level providing communal facilities for the use of prospective students and visitors including snooker tables and a football pitch.

How the scheme could look

“Other floors will have permanent uses whether zoned for studying or common rooms. These rooms are located next to the student hubs on lower ground floor and 9th floor level. This space at the appraisal site is supplemented by a courtyard at ground floor level with a light well providing natural light to the common room below.

“There is also a roof terrace and a student hub on the 9th floor of the building which will be accessible to all. This is intended to be an informal amenity space, providing a mixture of hard and soft landscape designs for students to enjoy. The facilities here will include a bar and seating area for the use of the students. The major aspiration of the buildings created by Future Generation is to ensure that first year students enjoy the experience and want to stay on to reside in their second and third years.”
