Developer names date for Boots Island site planning application

The Island Quarter site

Conygar, the company which is planning a huge city centre development in Nottingham, has said it will submit a planning application for the scheme next month (June).

In its results for the six months to 31 March, Conygar said it is working on the planning application for the 37 acre Boots Island site.

The company said: “[The site] is progressing well and we expect to submit the planning application at the end of June 2018. The application will consist of a mixed-use scheme of over two million square feet which will include apartments, student housing, offices, leisure uses and associated community retail offering along with open public spaces.”

Conygar bought the derelict Island site for £13.5m in December 2017, and just before Christmas said it was almost ready to submit a planning application.

In a statement in its annual results filed in December, the firm said: “The site provides a unique opportunity to create a new vibrant district in the centre of a major UK city and we are working closely with Nottingham City Council to deliver this exciting project.”

The site was formerly Boots, the Chemists’ headquarters and laboratories and has been vacant for twenty years.
