On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Josh Dickerson

A consultant with a property technology business in Nottingham has been chosen to help launch a new national initiative aimed at giving the next generation of professionals a voice in the future of the UK’s infrastructure.

Josh Dickerson is one of only 16 people on the Young Professionals Panel set up by the National Infrastructure Commission, the body which advises government on the future development of the UK’s transport, technology and utility networks.

Dickerson, who is only 25, is an associate with Deetu, the data and technology development hub launched by BWB Consulting, the design engineering business which is headquartered in Nottingham and operates across the country.

He will be part of a panel which is expected to not only raise the profile of the industry’s young professionals but support the Commission’s work by developing its own ideas about how the UK’s infrastructure can be better developed in the decades ahead.

Dickerson’s submission to the panel highlighted the importance of investment in major projects like rail, airports and flood defence, but said making sure the UK’s infrastructure was digitally-enabled was critical to ensuring it meets the economy’s needs in future.

He said: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to bring forward fresh perspectives about the future of infrastructure from the generation who will have a stake in it and feed those perspectives to government through the voice of the Commission.”

Stephen Jackson

East Midlands patent and trade mark firm Swindell & Pearson has hired Stephen Jackson as a trainee patent attorney.

After completing an MPhys in Physics at the University of Manchester, Stephen undertook a PhD on polymer deformation and fracture at the University of Sheffield.

Jackson said: “Swindell & Pearson appealed to me because of the expertise of its patent attorneys, and its reputation for great client care. I’m looking forward to helping the firm’s clients obtain protection for their interesting inventions”.

The firm has also revealed that Joe Baumber has been promoted to the role of associate.

Scott Harrison, IP director at the firm, said: “Stephen has the right blend of academic ability and commercial awareness that we look for in potential trainees. He’ll be an excellent fit at Swindell & Pearson and I look forward to working with him”.

“Joe is an asset to our firm and his promotion is well-earned as a result of his consistent hard work. We look forward to seeing him continue to develop at the firm.”
