Law firm Nelsons has brokered a deal to bring a health and wellbeing centre to the south of Derby.

Husband and wife duo Thomas and Sarah Luerken have set up Stay Well Health – based at Chellaston Medical Centre, in Rowallan Way – after returning from America last year, where they had spent the past eight years.

Sarah, originally from Chellaston, taught yoga while the couple lived in Washington and California, while Thomas, originally from South Lake Tahoe, in California, was an acupuncture practitioner.

Sarah said: “We’re really excited to be starting our first business together and offering fantastic holistic treatments to people in a beautiful and comfortable setting.

“Our goal was always to move back to England and set up our own practice. We noticed that the south Derby area had no dedicated centre offering both yoga and acupuncture, which we believe complement each other nicely.

“Yoga and acupuncture can help a lot of ailments and even medical problems. Yoga is a great way to get people moving – it’s non-invasive and can be practiced anywhere – whereas acupuncture is an alternative medicine which can successfully treat a variety of conditions, including pain, anxiety and insomnia.”

Thomas, previously a teacher of English as a second language at Central Washington University, added: “At the moment we’re entirely focussed on yoga and acupuncture but we’d eventually like to expand into different natural therapies and have a full timetable offering a variety of remedies.

“We’re really thankful to Nelsons and the support the law firm has given us. We’ve never run our own business in the UK before so having Nelsons advise us on the lease took a lot of weight off our shoulders.”

Solicitor Amy Rowson, who specialises in commercial property law at Nelsons, said: “Thomas and Sarah are both filled with passion for yoga and acupuncture and it has been great to help them on their journey in getting their wellbeing centre up and running.

“This was a rewarding transaction to be involved in and I cannot wait to see the business grow – I am sure it’ll be a popular addition to Chellaston and the general south Derby area.”
