Burton brewer and pubco to shed 40 jobs

Around 40 jobs are at risk at Burton brewery and pub operator Green King, according to reports.

The company is experiencing “considerable cost pressures” according to reports from the BBC. A restructure will affect office jobs in Burton and Bury St Edmunds. However, the firm says it will also create 25 new roles. In all, 100 jobs will go at the company.

A spokesman for the firm said: “We need to focus on supporting our pubs and believe the proposed structure will deliver a simpler, more effective way of working and at the same time reduce costs.

“This decision has not been taken lightly but is necessary to ensure that Greene King is sustainable and fit for the future.”

Pre-tax profits at Greene King dropped by 11.2% to £243m for the year-ending 29 April. The company employs 39,000 people and rund 2,855 pubs, restaurants and hotels throughout the UK, including the Hungry Horse, Chef & Brewer and Farmhouse Inn brands.
