Lincoln city centre road lane to be closed until next year

On-site deliveries to a new development in Lincoln is set to cause delays for motorists in the city as a city centre road lane is set to be closed for the rest of the year.

The left-hand lane of Newland at the junction of Carholme Road in Lincoln will be closed from 15th July to allow for the deliveries to Viking House – a new student accommodation scheme in the city.

During this time, there will be a no right turn back from Newland into The Avenue. A diversion route will be signed via Carholme Road and Long Leys Road. Drivers who use the route are advised to leave extra time or take an alternate route to minimise delays.

The closure is to allow for on-site deliveries to the new Viking House development, which is currently under construction.

The road will reopen when works to Viking House reach completion in 2019.

With the population of the University of Lincoln’s Brayford Campus set to increase by more than 3,300 students in the next seven years, the student housing scheme will meet the demand generated by these expansion plans while also making a significant improvement to the entrance of the city by improving views along Newland and Carholme Road.

Viking House is being developed by Jackson & Jackson Developments and built by local construction company LGG Projects.

Paul Jakuc at LGG Projects said: “We apologise for any inconvenience the partial road closure will cause to the public. We are working closely with the highways authority to ensure alternate routes are clearly signed and are working as quickly as possible to ensure minimal delays.

“Once complete, the development will breathe a new life into the area while also boosting the local economy, so we thank the public for their patience during this time.”
