Over 1,000 jobs lost as Poundworld announces more store closures

More East Midlands Poundworld stores are set to close after administrators announced that more than 1,000 jobs would be lost.

In total, administrators have said that 80 more stores are to close across the UK, including outlets in Burton, Corby, Hinckley, Leicester (two stores), Northampton and Nottingham. Some 85 jobs will go across the region.

Clare Boardman, joint administrator, said: “Whilst we remain hopeful that a sale for part, or parts, of the business can still happen, it has not been possible to sell the business as a whole. We would like to thank all the employees for their continued support and commitment during this difficult time. We are keeping staff appraised of developments as they happen.”

This latest round of closures follows an initial 25-store closure programme announced earlier this month. Those stores will close this weekend.
