12-storey student block faces delays over height

How the new scheme will look

Plans to build a Nottingham city centre student block that would be 12 storeys high have been delayed after concerns over views of the city’s castle.

Despite being tipped for recommendation by Nottingham’s planning chiefs, a decision on The Vantage, which will be built on land currently hosting a Plumb Centre on Traffic Street and Waterway Street, has now been deferred until the Planning Committee sits again on 15 August “for some design elements to be improved”, according to a Nottingham City Council spokesperson.

The Vantage would be built and operated by Future Generation and would be 172,000 sq ft with 118 student apartments. An Autumn 2018 start date had been mooted. It is not known if this will be pushed back.

Planners at Nottingham City Council were set to recommend the scheme for approval despite fears from Nottingham Civic Society that the building would be “far too tall and bulky”.
