Lincolnshire home of the Red Arrows display team to be sold in cost-cutting move

The home of the Red Arrows air display team in Lincolnshire is to be sold off, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said.

RAF Scampton has been the base for the Red Arrows since 2000, with 600 people working at the site – the airbase from which the Dambusters raid was launched in the Second World War.

Its closure, by 2022, is part of the Ministry of Defence’s efforts to save £3bn by 2040.

Sir Edward Leigh, Conservative MP for Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, tweeted: “Not the best way to mark the #RAF100: closing the home of the RAF Red Arrows and Dambuster squadron.”
