Broadmarsh bus station and car park given formal go-ahead

The new building from Carrington Street to Collin Street

The redevelopment of the Broadmarsh Bus Station and car park has been given the formal go-ahead by Nottingham City Council.

The Executive Committee met yesterday (31 July) to rubberstamp proposalsto start work immediately on the scheme which will bring 1,341 car parking spaces to the city centre, as well as retail outlets and electric vehicle plug-in points.

Demolition began on the Broadmarsh bus station and car park earlier this year, and has now been completed.

In total, developments in the wider Broadmarsh area – the car park, bus station, shopping centre, college and castle – represent a £250m investment, and are expected to create 3,000 jobs, £10bn GVA uplift over ten years, and attract around three million new visitors every year.

The car park development alone is forecast to create more than 100 jobs and generate almost £3m a year for the Nottingham economy.

It is expected that construction will start later this year.
