Plans revealed to expand Colwick Hall Hotel

Plans have been revealed to extend the banqueting facilities at Nottingham’s Grade II listed Colwick Hall Hotel.

GVA Grimley has submitted the plans on behalf of Colwick Hall Hotel to build a permanent 14,230 sq ft banqueting suite that will replace a semi-permanent marquee currently on site.

The present Hall dates from 1775, but there has been a building with the same name on site since 1362, when the firt owner, William de Colwick died and passed it down the family tree. Today, the Hall is home to a four-star hotel.

A statement accompanying the plans says: “The high cost of maintaining the listed building and the relatively small number of bedrooms means that the financial viability of the hotel business is finely balanced.

“In order to ensure viability, a function business operates in parallel to the hotel. Functions are accommodated within a
temporary marquee that is currently on the site.

“The freehold of the hall and its grounds is owned by Nottingham City Council. Accordingly, if the hotel business was to
fail the property would revert back to the freeholder. In such circumstances the City Council would become responsible
for the up keep of the listed building.”

The new building would cater for up to 500 guests.
