New pub and restaurant plans for Melbourne

The former gym on Derby Road

A former gym in the town of Melbourne could be turned into a bar and restaurant after plans were lodged with South Derbyshire District Council.

The plans to turn the former Picture of Health gym on Derby Road in the town into a pub and restaurant called The Cobblers Arms would create 12 jobs if given the go-ahead.

The plans have been drawn up by bi Design Architecture, which has offices in Repton, Derbyshire.

Designs for the new venue

A planning statement accompanying the application, says: “The proposal would result in a high quality and sympathetic conversion of the existing building which seeks to protect and enhance the character of the area.

“The proposal will provide Melbourne with a high-quality bar and restaurant. The development will also have the
potential to provide employment for local construction companies both part and full time. It will also provide opportunities for local retailers and service providers to service the ongoing requirements of the buildings.”
