Notts County reveal new structure as vice-chairman steps down

Alan Hardy with new first team manager Harry Kewell

Under-fire Notts County owner Alan Hardy says he is set to unveil a technical director as he completes a restructuring of the club’s footballing department.

The news comes after former Liverpool and Leeds star Harry Kewell was prised away from Crawley Town to become the new manager at Meadow Lane.

Kewell watched from the stands on Saturday as his new team lost 3-1 at home to Forest Green Rovers to remain rooted to the foot of the Football League.

It has also been revealed that BBC sports journalist and presenter Darren Fletcher has stepped down as vice-chairman. His departure follows that of director Jon Enever, which followed immediately in the aftermath of the sacking of former manager Kevin Nolan on 29 August.

On Fletcher’s departure, Hardy said: “Darren and I have come to a very amicable agreement that it would be best to part ways.

“He will remain a close personal friend of mine and I thank him for the tireless effort and support he gave to me.”

Before yesterday’s match against Forest Green, Hardy told BBC Radio Nottingham Sport: “We stayed at the stadium a couple of hours after the (Newport) game, put it was pretty evident the board had lost confidence, but we feel like we owed him [Kevin Nolan] the Lincoln game.

“I’ve got a new footballing structure. I’ve only been in this industry for eighteen months but I’m a quick learner. What I am interested in is getting this football club promoted.”
