Derby trailer rental company to create 18 jobs

Family-run business Orsam trailers says it has smashed through its recruitment target and will more than double the number of jobs it creates this year.

The firm, which staged successful bid to the Derby Enterprise Growth Fund (DEGF) last year, had hope to create seven new posts by December, but now says that number could be as many as 18.

The trailer rental company opened in 2014 with seven staff. Orsam found its niche by excelling in compliance and quality in a market dominated mainly by large businesses. When an opportunity opened for expansion and diversification into trailer maintenance, the company realised they would need to recruit more fitters and admin staff to fulfil potential commitments.

Managing director, Rebekah Orchard, said: “We were delighted to be successful in our application to the DEGF. The funding came at the right time to enable us to bid for a large contract. We have used the DEGF funding to invest in capital equipment, software and training. We believe the future holds further expansion and an even greater increase in the number of jobs we will create.”

Derby City Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Public Protection, Councillor Matthew Holmes, said: “The DEGF funding scheme managed by Derby City Council is actually one of the most successful of its type in the country. We’re really pleased to see how the funding has enabled this family run company to grow and create jobs locally. Expansion opportunities often require funding in the form of a grant or loan to enable businesses to move to the next stage and so we’re delighted to be able to help make this happen.”
