172,000 sq ft student block set for green light

How the new scheme will look

Plans to build a Nottingham city centre student block that would be 12 storeys high has been tipped for approval again by Nottingham City Council’s planning bosses.

The scheme, which would house 462 students across 118 apartments was delayed in July after concerns over views of the city’s castle.

A decision on The Vantage, which will be built on land currently hosting a Plumb Centre on Traffic Street and Waterway Street, has now been deferred until the Planning Committee sits again on 19 September “for some design elements to be improved”, according to a Nottingham City Council spokesperson.

The Vantage would be built and operated by Future Generation and would be 172,000 sq ft. An Autumn 2018 start date had been mooted. It is not known if this will be pushed back.

Planners at Nottingham City Council are set to recommend the scheme for approval despite fears from Nottingham Civic Society that the building would be “far too tall and bulky”.
