Beeston mixed-use scheme gets green light

How the new scheme will look

Plan to deliver 132 new homes, a new cinema and food and drink outlets to Beeston in Nottingham have taken a step closer.

Broxtowe Borough Council’s planning committee has unanimously granted full consent for the town’s new cinema and outline planning consent for the mixed-used and residential building.

Work on the multi-million-pound scheme to develop the two-acre site is expected to start next year and will consist of two buildings with surrounding landscaping and additional outdoor space for people to enjoy.

Councillor Richard Jackson, Leader of the Council for Broxtowe Borough Council said: “We’re delighted that the scheme has been given the go ahead. We know there is strong support from the research we’ve already undertaken to have exciting new restaurants, cafes, bars, a new cinema and a space where people can enjoy spending time in the evenings.

“We’re now in conversations with prospective tenants to help bring this development to life and I’m confident that we can create a thriving town centre which the people and surrounding businesses of Beeston can be proud of.”

The development site sits alongside the recently extended tram network and aims to revitalise Beeston’s night-time economy by driving increased footfall to the town from the local and surrounding communities.

Jackson added: “Not only will the scheme create much needed new homes for the area, but will also bring increased footfall for existing traders and will create jobs in property, construction and hospitality, supporting our local economy.”

The scheme – which has been developed by Nottingham-based Leonard Design Architects and marketed by agents HEB and JLL.

John Morgan, director at Leonard Design Architects, said: “We worked closely with Broxtowe Borough Council and potential occupiers to create a design for the scheme which will act as a gateway into the town centre. We’re looking forward to working with the council and the appointed contractor to help make this development a success.”
