Nottingham city centre pub to re-open two months after shock closure
Popular Nottingham city centre pub The Malt Cross is to open again later this month – just two months after its sudden closure.
Former music hall The Malt Cross blamed “tough trading conditions” for its closure in July. The bar was run by Malt Cross Ltd, a subsidiary of the Malt Cross Trust Company and Charity.
In August, the YMCA announced it was set to re-open the Malt Cross with a promise to “preserve the essence and heart” of the St James Street venue.
In a statement on its Facebook page, The Malt Cross said: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce that on Friday 28th September Malt Cross will be opening its doors once more and we cannot wait to see you all very soon.
“Nottinghamshire YMCA are helping us re-open as a new business with the same heart and spirit as before and we’ll be working together in partnership to do this. We are also delighted to be welcoming senior staff from Nottinghamshire YMCA who will be joining us as the new trustees of the Malt Cross Trust bringing a complete change in leadership to the charity too.”
The Malt Cross underwent a £1.4m refurbishment in 2014 after securing National Lottery funding. The Malt Cross Trust bought the venue in 1996.
