Accountancy firm Haines Watts has expanded into Nottinghamshire following the acquisition of Ling Phipp for an undisclosed sum.

The Stapleford office of Ling Phipp, which was founded in 1974 and employs 24 staff, has been rebranded Haines Watts following the acquisition, supported by Nelsons’ corporate partner David Kaplan.

Mark Roe, director at Haines Watts East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be adding Haines Watts Nottingham to our ever-growing family. The move is part of our ongoing growth plan, which currently has a particular focus on the East Midlands.

“Geographically, the move to acquire Ling Phipp made sense for us. We’ve been looking to reinstate our presence in Nottinghamshire for quite a while and Ling Phipp is a really good fit for the Haines Watts family.

“We have worked with David and the team at Nelsons on a number of other deals previously so we knew we were going to get a first-class service. The team worked tirelessly and David’s commercial insight was invaluable.

“There’s so much more scope for the Haines Watts business now the new Nottingham office has been rebranded. With assistance from our other offices, in particular Derby, we can provide more specialist services to our Nottinghamshire clients, including tax planning and VAT services.

“The offices will also share joint internal systems and we will be able to share knowledge between the two sites, making our services much more efficient for our clients.”

Haines Watts is a top 15 accountancy firm which had 16% growth in turnover in the year to 31 March 2018.

Roe added: “We are really looking forward to the challenge ahead of us and would like to welcome all Ling Phipp employees and clients into the Haines Watts family.

“We are very confident Ling Phipp’s staff and business will continue to be successful and grow under the Haines Watts banner.

“We are very lucky that Diane Lockwood, one of the previous owners of Ling Phipp, will be joining Haines Watts as a director and Paul Turner, Ling Phipp’s co-owner, will remain as a consultant to the business.

“We are currently focusing on making sure our Nottinghamshire office is a great success, but we do have further plans to continue to grow in the region in the future.”

David Kaplan, corporate partner at the Derby office of Nelsons, said: “Haines Watts is always looking for opportunities to grow and once this opportunity presented itself, it was a perfect fit for it.

“It was a pleasure working with Mark and I am sure that the Ling Phipp business will benefit immensely being part of the Haines Watts group.”
