Knights to look at ‘potential synergies’ after Spearing Waite takeover

Law firm Knights has told TheBusinessDesk.com that it will look at “potential synergies” in the aftermath of its £8.5m deal to buy Leicester rival Spearing Waite.

Knights pulled off the shock move earlier this week, with the Spearing Waite name set to disappear from the East Midlands legal scene from 1 January 2019. The two companies had been in discussions about the takeover since early summer, TheBusinessDesk.com has learned.

When asked if any jobs would be affected by the takeover, a spokesperson for Knight said: “As we have done in previous acquisitions, we will look closely at potential synergies and where we can improve upon Spearing Waite’s existing business. We are tremendously excited about the growth prospects for the business as part of Knights.

“We have been in discussions with the Spearing Waite team since early summer although have known Tom and his team for far longer than this. The next twelve months will be about fully integrating the business and building upon the fantastic momentum that Tom and the team have built up in recent years.”

On Tuesday, Tom Bower, senior partner, Spearing Waite, said: “We have grown Spearing Waite to be the best firm in Leicester through brilliant people acting for quality clients. To continue our growth strategy we have decided to join Knights, a larger business and perfect cultural fit. Knights has the ambition and the financial clout to enable the combined force to continue to thrive in Leicester. We can’t wait to get cracking with our ambitious growth plans.”
