Leicester smokehouse restaurant in sudden closure

A Leicester restaurant has closed down less than a year after it was saved from administration.

Grillstock, which has also closed its Bristol restaurant, has closed its St Martins Square venue. It is rumoured that fast-growing Indian street food chain Mowgli will take on the premises when it opens in the city early next year.

A statement on Grillstock’s Leicester Facebook page said: “We are sorry to have to say this but Grillstock has ceased trading. Thank you to everyone that has stuck with us through, what has been, a very tough year.”

Barbecue smokehouse Grillstock was placed into administration last November, only to be bought back by some of its directors. When it opened its first permanent restaurant in 2013 Turtle Bay founder Ajith Jaya-Wickrema was revealed as an investor. The group also had restaurants in Bristol and Bath.
