Police called in to lead on enquiry into failed Derby training firm

The government is set to pay the wages of some 40 staff from failed Derby training firm 3aaa until the end of the month, according to reports.

In a separate development, it has emerged that Derbyshire Constabulary is leading an enquiry into the company which last week made 500 people redundant.

The news comes a month after the co-founders of 3aaa, Peter Marples and Di McEvoy-Robinson, resigned after an Education and Skills Funding Agency investigation (ESFA) investigation into the company following unknown claims by a whistleblower.

FE Week says that the staff will help transfer nearly 4,500 apprenticeships to another provider, despite 3aaa ceasing trading on 11 October.

FE Week says the government will continue to pay at least one member of staff in each of 3aaa’s academies across the country, as well Anthony Bromirski, the director of operations and quality at the firm.

Following an enquiry, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) stopped all funding to 3aaa earlier this month. The findings of the enquiry have been passed on to Derbyshire Constabulary.
