Mowgli set to expand Nottingham restaurant

The owner of the Mowgli restaurant chain has told TheBusinessDesk.com that her Nottingham restaurant is set to become one of only three in the country to trial a breakfast menu.

Speaking at an exclusive lunch event last Friday (16 November), Nisha Katona told an audience of East Midlands business leaders that the Nottingham venue in Hockley will be serving breakfast from 1 December and will extend its opening hours to welcome guests from 10am.

Mowgl’s Nottingham restaurant

Katona said: “We’re looking to serve the ‘full Indian’, and bacon is a wonderful thing, so we’ll be trialling the longer earlier opening and serve breakfast for two hours each day before our lunch menu begins at midday. We’ve done our research and the Nottingham Mowgli has been chosen especially for the trial.”

Dubbing herself ‘a peddler of the kebab dream’, Katona said that she chose Nottingham to open a restaurant in because the city has “a strata of food intelligentsia”. She also said she is resisting the pressure to open a London venue and she thinks it’s important to show a restaurant chain can be successful in the regions, and that she is preparing to take another round of investment in the mid-term future.

When asked whether she would take a step back if her brand became too big to manage alone, she said: “I can’t imagine not working 12 hours a day; I love work – it’s a joy to work. I need to tell my story, and I want Mowgli to be the voice of homespun, Indian cooking.”

Katona will open her second East Midlands restaurant in Leicester in the first half of 2019.
