Plans for new Centre for Creative Technologies revealed

Plans for a new Nottingham Centre for Creative Technologies (NCCT) has been revealed.

Nottingham Trent University and Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies have announced the creation of the centre, due to be launched in August 2019.

Students, lecturers and researchers will work alongside designers, artists, employers and creative companies to learn, teach, develop and apply creative technologies and design.

The Centre will be based within both the Confetti and City campuses of NTU and combine elements of the existing Higher Education offer at Confetti and NTU’s Visual Communications Department within the School of Art & Design.

The joining of the two departments will enable NTU to develop new curricula and explore new areas of research and practice, and position NTU as a leader in the field of the creative industries, say the organisations.

Professor Edward Peck, vice-chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, said: “The NCCT is the next step for NTU in the creative technologies which support the country’s rapidly growing creative sector. It is a unique opportunity to move our creative thinking and technology development forward, and of course, to help more students launch their careers in the creative industries.”

Craig Chettle, chief executive of Confetti Media Group, said: “The NCCT is the result of a joint vision to capitalise on the growth of the creative industries by combing technical expertise, a long history of creative excellence and superb facilities. It will be a unique offering of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in both the sciences and arts with a culture of creative thinking and technical application. Confetti college students will continue their vocational education under the Confetti Institute banner, hopefully choosing to progress their higher level studies at the NCCT”.

Planning and preparation, involving colleagues from across Confetti and NTU, will now begin to bring forward the centre for its launch next August.
