Gym operator set to open 16,000 sq ft venue

A natonal fitness chain is set to open its third Nottingham gym after a deal brokered by Box Property.

PureGym will open a new 16,000 sq ft venue on Castle Marina Retail Park, in part of what was formerly the PC World store. It has further branches in Basford and Beeston.

The news comes a year after Nottingham City Council turned down a planning application from PureGym to open a 19,000 sq ft facility on Castle Park.

With around million members, PureGym is Britain’s largest gym membership brand offering no-contract, 24-hour, affordable fitness at its 230-plus clubs across the UK. The Leeds-based chain says it has plans to have 300 gyms by 2020.

Duncan Costin, Pure Gym property director said: “PureGym are delighted to be adding a third site in Nottingham which will serve the local working population and the nearby surrounding residents.

“Affordable health and fitness should be easily accessible to all and we are confident that our new site is ideally placed to serve a significant proportion of the office and residential population of the city that we’re not currently reaching.

“We’d been actively seeking premises in this area for some time and thanks to the guys at Box Property we finally found the perfect spot.”

Box Property founders Ben Tebbutt and Frankie Labbate began working with Pure Gym to secure its third premises in Nottingham after the fitness club had been unsuccessful in finding a suitable site itself.

Labbate said: “PureGym is an impressive and innovative brand which is known for its quality fitness clubs across the country and we are proud to be working with the brand on its expansion plans.

“Providing accessible and affordable fitness for everyone in good locations is what PureGym is all about and our client’s brand, product and vision is the reason the company is the market leader in the UK and the first British gym chain to gain one million members.

“PureGym approached us to secure its long-standing requirement for the south side of the city and using our network of industry contacts, expertise and market knowledge we were able to deliver the perfect result. Although there were opportunities in the city centre, with increasing vacancy rates, and developments forthcoming in the future the market is somewhat saturated with budget gym operators thus we opted to secure the PC world site with free parking on the fringe of the city centre.

“Castle Marina Retail Park has always been a strong and vibrant shopping destination and the new gym will be ideally positioned to benefit from the footfall and passing traffic of shoppers. It will serve the area south of Nottingham city centre well with so many offices and businesses located nearby. I think the city as a whole will be glad to see the back of the tired, old and empty PC World building and will welcome a brand-new affordable gym in its place.”
