New FD carries haulage company to profit success

Profits at Kirkby-in-Ashfield haulage, storage and training provider Merritt Holdings has bounced back after two successive years of falling profits.

Revenue at the company, which employs 42 people, rose by 39% for the year-ending 30 June, up £1.56m to £5.52m, while profits soared from £320,000 to £870,000 over the same period on the back of a combination of cost control and “operational efficiences”, according to newly posted accounts.

The firm puts the successful year down to strengthening its board with the appointment of finance director Alan Cundy, while director James Merritt has had a more customer-facing role.

A statement in the accounts said: “A significant programme of capital investment started in 2018 and this will continue into 2019 and beyond, investing in new plant and equipment to support the growth and add more capacity.”
