Iconic Nottingham restaurant set to close

An icon of Nottingham’s High Street is set to close its doors this Saturday after 35 years in business.

Nottinghamshire Live reports that the Wimpy fast food restaurant in the Broadmarsh will shut for the final time on Saturday 5 January after bosses at the intu Broadmarsh prepare for the redevelopment of the shopping centre.

Akram Malik has been franchisee at the Wimpy since 1983. Nottinghamshire Live says that intu had asked him to move to the downstairs mall in the Broadmarsh, but that the unit might not be ready for another two years. He said: “They have asked us to leave so they can work here. I might come back in two years but it depends on the economic climate.”

Seven members of staff will be made redundant.
