Sports Direct boss eyes swoop for furniture giant
The boss of Shirebrook-based Sports Direct, Mike Ashley, is reportedly about to make a move for furniture retailer sofa.com.
Sky News says that Ashley will make a multi-million pound bid for the firm, which was put up for sale in December. It is thought he is competing against the ScS Group.
Ashley is thought to want to clinch the deal because sofa.com has concessions in a number of House of Fraser stores, which he owns.
Sports Direct bought House of Fraser out of administration last summer. Earlier this month he won a battle with landlord intu and announced the Nottingham store would be staying open, despite it being slated to close.
