Developer completes deal for former brewery site

The former brewery site

Grade II listed buildings at a former brewery are set to be given a new lease of life after Ilkeston-based housebuilder completed a land deal.

Fairgrove Homes has bought the site at the former Hardys and Hansons Kimberley Brewery.

The Brewery Yard development is the latest phase of redevelopment and regeneration for the site. Fairgrove Homes began work at the former Kimberley Brewery in 2015 and has since completed the first phase, as well as 75% of the second of five phases of development at the site – which will see a range of apartments, townhouses, semi-detached and detached homes built.

The deal means that the preserved Grade II* listed buildings surrounding the former brewery yard – including the kilns, kiln stores, tower and the maltings – can now be repaired and converted into luxury dwellings and office spaces.

Fairgrove Homes’ sales and marketing manager Vanessa Gregory said: “This is a landmark day in the redevelopment of the former Kimberley Brewery site.

“Legal completion now opens doors to a range of other opportunities for the local community. In addition to providing new homes and securing the future of the listed buildings, we will be actively seeking to recruit apprentices to join our team in 2019 and local subcontractors will be brought in to complete the redevelopment. Broxtowe Borough Council will also benefit by being able to provide a range of attractive new homes to residents as part of its wider plans.”

Law firm Nelsons represented Fairgrove Homes on the deal.
