New owner for haulage company after MBO

A Buxton haulage firm has been bought in a management buy-out by member of staff who has only been with the firm for just over a year.

SK Distribution, based at Harpur Hill in Buxton, has been bought out by its former general manager, Vic Smith.

Smith joined SK Distribution, a member of freight network Palletways, just over a year ago and was keen to acquire the business after realising the company’s potential for growth. He’s been quick to implement changes, with the firm recently investing over £400,000 in four new Volvo 18 tonne trucks, one Volvo 44 tonne tractor unit, two new Mercedes Sprinter vans and two new 13.6m tail lift trailers.

He said: “I’m confident that by nurturing our existing customers, having a renewed focus to drive sales and invest in our fleet, we’ll be able to bring about plenty of opportunities to grow the business and increase our profitability.”

He continues: “It’s no secret that the industry is facing a recruitment challenge and in order to attract the best drivers, we need to offer market-leading equipment and infrastructure. Our new additions are all of a high specification with top-of-the-range equipment which will offer our drivers greatly improved comfort and reliability and a safer working environment.

“We’ve also had a complete re-design of our livery and are proud to say that our oldest vehicle in the fleet is just three years old. There’s lots of competition for drivers in this area and I’m confident our fleet will help get new recruits through the door.”
