Law firm expands banking and finance services

Alistair Haggerty and Simon Trees

Law firm Nelsons has expanded its banking and finance offering with a specialist dispute resolution department, based in Leicester.

Partner and solicitor Simon Trees – who joined Nelsons in 2011 and has more than 18 years of experience in the sector – will be heading up the new group.

He will be joined by property litigation expert, Alistair Haggerty; Kiren Cox, who qualified as a solicitor in 2018; and Farrah Khalid, who joined the team this January having recently qualified.

Trees said: “Nelsons has been dealing with contentious banking and finance work for more than a decade, but it was never focused on as a core department in its own right. However, the banking landscape has witnessed great change over the past year – particularly due to developments such as peer-to-peer lending and blockchain – and we’ve had an increase in the number of new business enquiries we’ve been receiving as a result.

“Contentious banking and finance is a niche but highly sought-after and prestigious area of law and we wanted to expand the team and build a centre of excellence in the East Midlands.”
