Manufacturer creates 23 jobs after record year of growth

A Nottingham manufacturer says the rise in demand for automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics solutions by manufacturers, coupled with the continued development of its apprentices has led to it creating 23 jobs over the last year.

LAC Conveyors and Automation, based in Bulwell, says it has managed to grow its headcount to 60 during the last 12 months.

The company, which produces conveyor and automation solutions for the manufacturing, warehouse and food and beverage industries, says it has also secured a number of new partnerships and projects during the period.

Chris Unwin, chief executive at LAC Conveyors and Automation, said: “We are delighted by the progress we have managed to achieve over the past 12 months – the growth and continued diversification of LAC as a business showcases the hard work of our talented team of staff that we are continuing to build and develop here in Nottingham.

“Our cohort of apprentices have been instrumental in taking our business to the next level, bringing a new passion and yearning to develop and learn, as well as a constantly analysing, revising and developing technical solutions for our clients.

“The rise in the requirements for automation within businesses has been evident in the types of new enquiries we receive on a daily basis – it’s clear that manufacturing firms are now beginning to appreciate the benefits of AI, robotics and automation solutions in streamlining tasks and maximising safety for their workforces.”

LAC says it has plans to grow its team by a “significant number” during 2019, with a continued focus on apprentices and mechanical and electrical design professionals.

Unwin, added: “Despite recent reports and the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, I feel the future is very bright for the UK manufacturing and engineering industries, particularly for business that embody bravery within their leadership teams and are willing to invest in their own future and staff.”
