Over 80 jobs could be created at a new retail development on the site of a former swimming baths.

Lidl wants to build a new 33,000 sq ft outlet on land that was used by the Beechdale Swimming Baths in Nottingham. The leisure facility was demolished in 2017.

As well as a Lidl supermarket, there scheme outlines six further units and a drive-thru coffee shop. In total, some 84 jobs could be created at the site, which is being recommended for planning approval and will go before Nottingham City Council’s plannning comittee tomorrow afternoon (20 March).

The scheme has been overwhelmingly supported by locals, who say it will bring new jobs and a greater shopping choice, according to documents seen by TheBusinessDesk.com.

A planning statement reads: “Since the demolition of the swimming baths, the vacant site has been awaiting redevelopment. The current proposals provide a comprehensive development solution that will enhance the site and surrounding area and make a positive contribution to the local economy.”
