Derbyshire independent day nursery and school enters administration

A Derbyshire independent school and dy nursery which is part of a 1,000-strong global network has entered administration.

Siann Huntley and Andy Beckingham from Leonard Curtis Business Rescue & Recovery have been appointed as joint administrators to the Derbyshire‐based independent school Michael House and Rowans Day Nursery.

The school, kindergarten and nursery provide education from birth through to 16 years and is part of a worldwide network of organisations which educate children according to the principles of Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian-born occultist who died in 1925.

Steiner schools base their curriculum – which emphasises creativity and imagination – on the spiritual philosophy of Rudolf Steiner.

The Derbyshire school and day nursery currently looks after around 80 pupils at its Heanor site.

Huntley said: “We are working closely with the school’s Trustees, who have been very supportive, the Principal, parents and other stakeholders to make sure that it is business as usual for pupils of all ages, but especially those who are in the run up to their GCSEs. It is important that their education ‐and that of all pupils ‐ remains unaffected.”
