Discount retailer to bring 125 jobs to Leicestershire

Discount retailer Poundstretcher is set to move its head office and main warehouse to Leicestershire, bringing scores of jobs to the area.

The company will shift operations from Huddersfield to Desford, to create a single UK head office, while consolidating its warehousing there.

The Huddersfield Examine says that Poundstrectcher wants to create “a complete corporate set-up” in Desford.

The move will affect some 120 warehousing staff in Huddersfield, who have been told they can relocate to new jobs in Leicestershire, which will be in a 470,000 sq ft warehouse.

Planning documents show that Poundstretcher will create around 125 jobs in Desford.

A spokesperson for Poundstretcher said: “The business is not shrinking, it’s growing. We still need people and everybody (in Huddersfield) has been offered to come here (Leicester).”

The company is reportedly set to begin redundancy proceedings with staff in Huddersfield.

Landmark Planning, representing Poundstretcher, told The Examiner: “This April, Poundstretcher intends to undertake a move from its Huddersfield office to Desford, consolidating into a single UK head office.

“This process is expected to run gradually between April and June. Currently, our head office is based in Huddersfield.

“Our plan is to have the majority of our head office operations move to Leicester in the next 3-6 months’ time.

“Our Leicester office will be the registered office and head office for Poundstretcher Ltd.

“We are also recently opening an average of 3-4 stores per week throughout the country under our new brand, Bargain Buys, which will also be owned by Poundstretcher Ltd.

“Both retail chains will be controlled and operated from the Leicester Desford head office.”
