700-acre employment park gets ready to open for business

Bus stops are ready to go

Public bus services to SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway will commence on 31 March as the 700-acre logistics hubs prepares to open for business.

The new public bus routes, which will be operated by trentbarton and Kinchbus, are a crucial part of the site’s infrastructure and will enable commuters to reach the site from Loughborough, Leicester, Derby and Nottingham. Over 7,000 people will work at the logistics hub when it is fully operational.

The bus routes are:

· skylink Clifton (trentbarton) via Nottingham and Clifton then non-stop to East Midlands Gateway

· skylink Nottingham (trentbarton) via Long Eaton, Castle Donington, Kegworth, Sutton Bonington and Loughborough

· skylink Derby (Kinchbus) via Alvaston, Shardlow, Castle Donington, Kegworth, Loughborough, Leicester

With the first warehouse unit complete, a dedicated park manager has been appointed to act as first point of contact for customers. The park manager will be based at the newly-completed management suite and be responsible for managing on-site security and other contractors, as well as the Park Shuttle Bus Service which will be operational from Autumn 2019.

Andrew Pilsworth, business unit director for national logistics at SEGRO, said: “The introduction of new public bus routes and the arrival of a dedicated park manager underlines that SLP-EMG will soon be open for business. We have made rapid progress; in under two years we have already secured four customers, a rail freight operator, delivered significant infrastructure improvements as well as providing hundreds of construction employment opportunities.”

SLPEMG will be one of the UK’s largest logistics hubs, comprising 6 million sq ft of warehouse space and a new 50-acre rail freight interchange which will be operated by Maritime Transport.

Construction started in 2017 and over 2m sq ft has already been pre-let to companies including logistics and transport company Kuehne & Nagel. The first units are set to be operational in 2019 and on completion the development will support 7,000 jobs.
