Furniture retailer set to axe nearly 70 Leicestershire jobs

Some 68 jobs could be moved to Lancashire

Furniture retailer Harveys is set to axe nearly 70 jobs at its Magna Park site in Lutterworth, according to reports.

Leicestershire Live says Harveys is in talks to move its 68-strong customer services arm from Magna Park to offices in Accrington.

The news comes weeks after supermarket giant Lidl said it was moving staff away from Magna Park after announcing plans to close its distribution centre there, putting hundreds of jobs under threat.

A Harveys spokesperson said: “These changes will help to facilitate a more robust customer services experience to help meet customer demands.

“As a result, all customer service employees at Magna Park have been placed at risk of redundancy and will be entering in to a minimum 30 day consultation period, which will start on March 29.

“Whilst this proposal will result in a change for its customer services team in Magna Park, the new structure ensures that Harveys will be able to provide a more improved service for its customers.”

Kalwant Singh, managing director of Harveys, told Leicestershire Live: “As part of our transformation strategy for the Harveys brand, we have had to review ways in which we can deliver better customer service and better products to our customers.

“Part of this has included how we structure the customer services team so we can respond more quickly to customer calls and queries.

“The move to Huncoat will enable us to enhance our capabilities and operate at a much higher standard for our customers.

“Making these changes now will help drive our continued commercial success.”
