Rolls-Royce hit with further engine problems after airline grounds planes

Derby-based Rolls-Royce has been hit by a fresh blow to its Trent 1000 TEN engines after Singapore Airlines grounded two aeroplanes after concerns over engine trouble.

The ailine has halted flights on two Boeing 787-10 jets which are powered by Rolls-Royce engine after tests showed that the blades on the engines were deteriorating too quickly.

It’s the latest twist in the ongoing saga of the Trent 1000 series of engines, which last year meant Rolls-Royce took a £775m hit to its first half trading results.

In January, the firm said the engines were ready to return to service after spending a further £554m trying and correct the engine problems at Delta TechOps’ engine overhaul facility in Atlanta, Georgia.
