Prominent local legal figure lands top job with University of Law

Andy Matthews

Renowned commercial property lawyer Andy Matthews has left Gateley after over a decade.

Matthews, who was senior partner in the East Midlands at Gateley, will move to the soon-be-opened University of Law in Nottingham. He will take the position of dean at the new facility.

The University of Law will move into 1 Royal Standard Place, creating 47 jobs in Nottingham.

The University of Law is the UK’s longest-established specialist provider of legal education and training in the UK, with campuses in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, Guildford, Manchester and Leeds, as well as at The University of Exeter, The University of Reading, and The University of Liverpool.

The courses to be offered at the proposed Nottingham campus would be linked to the local law firms and businesses and will include flexible and modular programmes that would support apprenticeship programmes. There will be around 860 students enrolled on courses, with most of them post graduates, typically in their early twenties, but there will only be around 290 students on site at any one time.

A spokesperson for The University of Law told TheBusinessDesk.com: “Following extensive market analysis we identified Nottingham as a target location for a new campus in the UK. Nottingham’s excellent transport links, good range of law firms and businesses make it an ideal base for The University of Law. Although plans are at an early stage we are excited about the possibility of opening a new campus in Nottingham and aim to be fully open for business by September.”
